Multi-SKU Custom LED Strip Order Validation

A custom LED lighting order involved multiple LED strip configurations with different optical, electrical and installation requirements. Before mass production, each critical specification needed to be reviewed and validated according to the exact product configuration.

Project Background

The project included several customized LED strip types, including RGB COB, CCT COB, long-run addressable LED strip and LED Neon Flex. Each product had different technical risks and therefore could not be validated using the same test method.

The main objective was to confirm critical specifications before mass production and avoid relying on test data from similar but different product models.

Key Validation Requirements

RGB COB LED Strip

COB LED strip lights for commercial and OEM lighting projects

The RGB COB model required confirmation of power consumption, brightness performance and the output of different color channels on the ordered configuration.

CCT COB LED Strip

SMD LED strip lights for commercial lighting applications

Color temperature needed to be checked together with relevant color data instead of relying only on the nominal CCT value.

Long-Run Addressable LED Strip

Addressable LED strip lights for dynamic RGB and pixel lighting

The long-run model required testing over the required installation length to evaluate voltage drop, brightness consistency and operating performance.

LED Neon Flex

Waterproof LED strip lights for outdoor and commercial applications

The Neon Flex configuration required an actual sample to confirm visual appearance, dot-free illumination and the final lighting effect after encapsulation.

Why Exact-Model Testing Matters

LED strip performance can change when PCB width, copper thickness, LED density, power, voltage, waterproof structure or other components are changed.
For this reason, a test report from a similar product can be useful as reference data, but it should not automatically be treated as final validation for a different ordered model.
For critical specifications, the final approval should be based on the actual sample or exact production configuration whenever practical.

Validation Process

Specification Review

Review each SKU separately and identify the parameters that require confirmation before production.

Sample Preparation

Prepare the required product configuration or sample according to the approved specification.

Technical Testing

Measure the critical electrical, optical and visual parameters required for each product type.

Approval Before Production

Compare the test results with the agreed specification and confirm any remaining differences before mass production.

What Was Checked

Power & Electrical Performance

Power, voltage and operating conditions were reviewed according to the individual LED strip specification.

Brightness & Light Output

Light output was checked where brightness was a critical project requirement.

CCT & Color Performance

Color temperature and relevant color characteristics were evaluated for the required white-light configurations.

Long-Run Performance

Longer LED strip configurations required additional attention to voltage drop and brightness consistency.

Visual Appearance

The final visible lighting effect was evaluated where encapsulation, Neon Flex structure or dot-free performance could affect appearance.

Exact-Model Verification

Critical results were linked to the actual required product configuration rather than automatically transferring data from another model.

Project Takeaway

For multi-SKU custom LED strip projects, one test report cannot automatically represent every product configuration. Different models may require different validation methods depending on the critical specification.
Defining the validation requirements before mass production helps reduce technical misunderstandings and gives both the buyer and manufacturer a clearer approval standard.
